This Mercedes heavyweight was transformed from the chassis of the Mercedes Benz LOD 3750. The KS15 weighed in at over 9 tons gross vehicle weight. The KS15 featured a 400 gallon per minute front mounted water pump. The truck was powered by a 7.3 litre 6 cylinder engine which could provide up to 100 horsepower. The top speed for the vehicle was approximately 40 miles per hour. The KS15 fire truck was renown for its ability to respond to a fire scene with as many as fifteen firemen and a full complement of fire fighting apparatus.
Oberndorf Fire Company
This model was based on an original fire engine from the Oberndorf Fire Company in Germany. During the pre-war years there were several green fire engines around which belonged to the police and they had full police rights, such as power of arrest, etc. After the war, some cities did not respray their fire engines red for financial reasons so they remained green until their last day in service. The original from Oberndorf is now in private hands and completely restored. The museum in Speyer, in Germany, has a fire engine in the original green and is very close to this limited edition model.
